Analyzing the implementation of Spatial Justice through Spatial Planning and Land Use Management Act. A case study of Bester, eThekwini Municipality
Anenzuzo Maphumulo is a Town and Regional Planning Masters candidate at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Her research focuses on the history of apartheid in South Africa, which created deeply entrenched spatial inequalities and segregated urban landscapes. Anenzuzo’s study adopts the spatial justice principle to analyze local government’s efforts to address spatial injustices in peri-urban areas, focusing on Bester in the north region of eThekwini Municipality. This area is characterized by historical spatial disparities and inequalities resulting from apartheid-era urban planning, leading to unequal resource distribution, limited access to essential services, and social exclusion.
