Fortune Mangara qualified as a rural and urban planner at the University of Zimbabwe and later obtained an MSc and a Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Planning from the North-West University – Potchefstroom Campus. Fortune also holds a Postgraduate Certificate International Module in Spatial Development Planning from KU Leuven, Belgium. He is currently a Postdoc Research Fellow under the SARCHi Chair for Inclusive Cities in the School of Built Environment and Development Studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Before this, he worked as a Part- Lecturer in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at North-West University where he was awarded two certificates for the best teaching and learning contribution in the Subject Group Urban and Regional Planning in 2019 and 2021, respectively, by the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences. Fortune has published on issues related to urban planning. His research interests include inter-alia spatial and urban resilience, social and economic geography, public spaces, urban policy, urban governance, transport planning, and spatial transformations in African cities.
